I'm trying something new with this blog, taking inspiration from "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", one of the first children's computer games released in the floppy disk era, a long time ago in 1985.

Accordingly, I won't publish an itinerary in advance, nor any maps, just photos, and some occasional text. You'll have to guess where we've been, and, depending on cell service and internet access, I'll eventually let you know where we visited.

Feel free to record your guess in the comments section.

Day 24-August 4

 Photos from Day 24

It should be pretty easy to figure out where we were?

Not Old Faithful, but just a as exciting to see.

In case you weren't sure.

Comments about Day 23:

Leaving Ferry Canyon, we headed south toward Bozeman, with a brief stop in Belgrade at the Swiss Chalet Market, where Joni picked up several stocking stuffers and I bought some local sausage and cheese.  Arriving in Bozeman shortly thereafter we picked up some cinnamon buns at a local bakery and then took a brief driving tour of this city of 45,000 which is the home of the Montana State University.   This town is growing by leaps and bounds, but it has retained a lot of it’s original identify.  We both liked it a lot.

Heading south for another 30 miles from Bozeman, we stopped briefly at our campsite along the Swan Creek, deep in the canyons of the Gallatin National Forest, and moved on to Big Sky Resort where we took a chairlift ride that gave us great views of the area.  Big Sky is an impressive ski area by any standard with trails and bowls to accommodate all skier abilities.

Leaving Big Sky around 5 pm, we headed another 5 miles south to the Gallatin River House for a barbecue dinner.  It was just after 5 PM,  but the place was packed with both tourists and locals.  We enjoyed our conversation with our neighbor at the bar, a retired teacher, who was born in  Wellesley, MA, but grew up in  Grand Rapids, MI, before retiring to Big Sky.  Our dinner was delicious and so huge that we have enough leftovers for at least one, and maybe two more dinners!

We returned to our campsite around 7 PM where the scenery was spectacular, with the Swan Creek just 20 yards away.  Should make for a great night’s sleep, but I'm sure glad we have bear spray.

  2. You were right in my sweet spot! We’ve gone to a ranch below Big Sky for 30 years, Nine Quarter Circle Ranch, 5 mikes off Highway 191 along the Taylor Creek. Yellowstone is magical! We stop there most years too, and also have been in fall no winter for a xc ski week. I’m loving following along with your trip! Janet
