I'm trying something new with this blog, taking inspiration from "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", one of the first children's computer games released in the floppy disk era, a long time ago in 1985.

Accordingly, I won't publish an itinerary in advance, nor any maps, just photos, and some occasional text. You'll have to guess where we've been, and, depending on cell service and internet access, I'll eventually let you know where we visited.

Feel free to record your guess in the comments section.

Day 14, July 25

 Comments about Day 13

Saturday, July 24 was a travel day as we sadly left Alex & Alice in Friso, headed north to Steamboat Springs where we picked up some sandwiches, and then continued on to Wasatch Mountain State Park, just 18 miles south of Park City Utah.  We covered 398 miles on 2-lane blacktop, crossing the barren high plains of Colorado and Utah.

We stopped to eat our sandwiches at a rest area near the Utah state line that was a memorial to Colorado's former governor and senator, Edwin Johnson.  It was so hot, 97°, that our sandwiches tasted like they'd been toasted.  We stopped for an ice cream at the Bedrock Depot in Dinosaur, Colorado, which is very close to Dinosaur National Monument, that we visited on our previous visit to Colorado.  Every business within 30 miles of the park plays up the dinosaur theme.

Leaving Colorado, we continued across the empty plains of Utah, finally arriving at our campsite around 6:30 PM, where the temp had dropped to a cool 90°.

Our route for day 13.

Photos from Day 14:

Tiger Alley cocktails:  double rye (distilled in house), Guatemalan rum, cocunut, Thai Tea, pineapple, & lime!

Fire roasted Utah corn, with Chipolte crema, Cotija cheese, with fresh lime and cilantro.

Chicken schnitzel with an herb and parmesan crust, lemon beurre blanc, and crispy capers.  This was accompanied by a salad of fresh radish, cucumber, asparagus, and a caramelized sherry vinaigrette.

Tacos with Niman Ranch Carne Asada, ranchero crema, pickled onions, and cotija.

  1. Todays dining was gourmet ! You are near a ski resort and stopped by some town that looks like you might have hung out in a saloon.

  2. Gorgeous scenery, but the temperature sounds awful. One can understand how these fires occur!
