Comments on Day 15:
Another hot one in Utah! 97 was our high.
Today we took the scenic drive across the Wasatch Range taking the spectacular Alpine Loop to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument. Unfortunately we were unable to buy tickets for the guided tour of the cave, but we still decided to hike along the trail to the cave which was only 1.5 miles but very steep with an elevation gain of about 1500 feet. We didn’t make it to the cave entrance, but we thoroughly enjoyed the hike a good great views throughout the climb and descent.
We were back in our van by 2 pm and headed into the nearby town of American Fork where we dined for the first time at the “In and Out Burger”. We’re one and done; it was cheap and clean, but not as good as 5 Guys, Steak N Shake, or Culvers.
After lunch we headed back to our campsite via the Alpine Loop with a brief stop at the Sundance Ski Area which was once owned by Robert Redford. Sundance, Utah has a year round population of only 44, and apparently that same number of trails at the ski area. Comparing it to Eastern ski areas, it was much more like Mad River Glen or Cannon.
Before returning to our campsite we stopped at Starbucks for a cold drink and internet access, and then picked up some food for dinner.

We're with you re: In and Out Burger. One and done. Five Guys is our local fave.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who watched Hell On Wheels is guessing you were at Promontory, Utah where the great intercontinental railroad construction race ended in 1869.
ReplyDeleteBingo...an exciting site!
DeleteThis is so great! I can tour the country, learn some history, share photos, discover wonderful food and drink, meet friends and family (just not mine), and camp in style, all from the comfort of my couch. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying the blog.
